HAPPY SAINT PATRICKS DAY!

I know, I’m a day late, but there’s really good reason! I was at the KWA Scene conference all day yesterday (8AM-9PM). It was Great! There were agents, editors, publishers, authors, experts – You Name It! Good stuff for writers. AND for the reader, too. I know I’m trying to cut back on my “book habit” but I can’t – I bought 3 wonderful books that I can’t wait to read. New talent is amazing!

At the Kansas Author’s Club convention in Coffeyville Sunday I had the pleasure of hearing poetry written by three very talented youth. Talk about exciting! And too much fun. It was inspiring to hear these young people read their works. Poetry is difficult for me to write, but these youngsters made it sound easy. I know, it’s not. Writing contests are a great way for a writer to learn. You have to follow guidelines and meet deadlines. You have to submit your best work in order to beat the competition. How to find the right path…for your writing.

One of the first questions I hear from others is “how did you get published?” It wasn’t easy. (It took ten years for Feisty Family Values to go from concept to hardback.) But, I was determined to keep improving my craft. Writing is definitely one of the things that benefits from quantity. The more you write, the better your writing. You can’t give up. Writing is work.
