Family tradition becomes holiday book
Read all about the MacCartney family tradition and the living nativity that has grown over the years, as her children’s imagination grew. They decided to find out what life was like in Bethlehem when Jesus was born. They learned about the customs, the buildings, the animals and the day to day lives, and with that discovery their nativity became a growing and living replica of the times. She wrote devotionals and created activities for her children to do during the season and from their efforts came a book. You can read more about Marti and her book “The Children’s Nativity” … Continue reading
Christmas Shopping
BUY BOOKS!! Take time to pick a book for someone you love (or like) for Christmas. They’ll be glad you did.
Fueling the muse.
One of the best ways for a writer to fuel the muse is to read. When I’m not writing or working the day job I am usually reading. I’ve told you all about my home “library”. When someone recommends a book to me or I read a great review then I have to have the book. I think I’m a favorite at the used bookstore, and I used to go to Border’s every week (but sadly, they are gone, and that is another story). My muse looks like a fairy with her hair pulled back in a little gray knot … Continue reading
Why I write…
I posted this on Facebook, but I thought I should share it here, too. Several people have asked me if I’m writing to get rich. The fact is that only a dozen or so authors have gotten “rich” on their writing. That’s not why I write. I am fascinated with people, their families, their friends, and their stories. I’ve written non-fiction articles about some amazing people doing extraordinary things in their ordinary lives. The neighbor who has worked with the Children’s Home for the majority of her 80 years. The woman’s group that creates quilts and afghans for children in … Continue reading
WSU journalism professor will be missed.
Les Anderson died this week and we will miss him. He was a teacher, mentor, journalist, author and all around nice guy. I met Les when I joined Wichita Professional Communicators several years ago. When he compiled his Ark Valley News humor columns into a book “Never Take a Snake for a Ride,” A lot of folks filled Watermark Books to hear him speak and have him sign copies. And I believe some or all of the proceeds went to the Valley Center Library building fund. He was a great guy and I’m glad to see a lot of people … Continue reading
Little things mean a lot.
Every year I start my Christmas shopping in the summer time, picking up stocking stuffers and “little things” that I think someone might enjoy. They are usually on sale, which is a bonus for me, because I get more for my money. I’m not alone in this practice, either, what with the economy and unemployment many people have started early and taken advantage of sale pricing to get fun things for their loved ones. One of my favorite stores is a little boutique down in Old Town Wichita that has really interesting and unusual “little things”. Every year I find … Continue reading
Keyhole Conversations
Some author buddies of mine have developed a fun way to promote our books. They call it Keyhole Conversations. They interview a character from your book on video. It’s a lot of fun and gives the reader a little insight into the author through the character’s eyes. Here it is, an interview with Tillie, the feistiest woman in Feisty Family Values. I hope you enjoy it! (click on the blog title and it will take you to the page and video)
Local Libraries
Local Libraries ROCK! The smell of all those books and the quiet shuffle of people looking for just the right book to read…awesome stuff. Does your library have a copy of Feisty Family Values? Please find out and if they don’t, then ask them to add it to their inventory. With this challenging economy borrowing books from libraries is more valuable than ever before. If you enjoyed Feisty Family Values, recommend it to your friends. Write a review on Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble’s web sites. You can even leave me a review in the comment field. Help me get … Continue reading
