The fact of the matter is that “you are never too old to learn something new.” I am finding this out every day, because frankly I learn something every day from family, friends, books, the news, my dogs…wherever. Sometimes it’s just little stuff, like don’t lift your leg while your shaking your head. (When our dog does that she falls over and she’s still go 3 legs on the ground, whereas I’d be down to one.)
Right now I’m learning French (using software, not a formal class). It’s slow going, but some of the words are starting to stick. The pronunciations, however, not so much. Hopefully that, too, will improve. I thought I was too old to learn a new language but I’m making progress, so there is hope.
This weekend I saw “Eat Pray Love” and one of the lessons I took away from it involves getting quiet and appreciating down time. Many of us don’t ever have enough down time, so last evening I rested and watched old movies on television (Little Women, The Secret Garden). It felt great. Finding balance is a lesson in the film, too. That’s a hard one for most people, myself included. And some of the most wonderful things that occur in our lives (like love) can just topple you over. There were a lot of other good things I took from the movie (no carb left behind) but I’m going to read the book and see what all they couldn’t portray in the film.
The Dove Chocolate Promise for today is: “Life is too short to drink cheap wine.” I do enjoy a nice glass of wine occasionally, but I don’t drink often or very much. This message reminds me to not skimp on enjoyment. That doesn’t mean I won’t be using coupons or discounts, but I will be using them on things that matter to me and not just settle for something because I can. A perfect example is shoes. I love comfortable shoes and they are generally expensive, but if I can get them on sale – all the better. I don’t waste my money on uncomfortable or poorly made shoes.
Thanks for listening to the ramblings of a feisty writer.
