May Day is tomorrow…

I remember when May Day meant putting flowers on the porch of the sweet little old lady who lived next door, ringing the door bell and running.  I picked them out of our garden so she wasn’t mad, in fact she was pleasantly surprised.  She probably knew it was me, I was the only little girl on the block and you wouldn’t find any of the boys doing something so corny. Those were some fun days.

This May 1st in Active Aging you’ll find an article about the McCormick School Museum.  If you aren’t familiar with the museum I suggest you plan on visiting sometime.  It’s an amazing place filled with Wichita history.  The first limestone building was erected in 1890 and additional buildings were added on over the years as the population of Wichita grew.  The very first school house was in an abandoned Civil War dugout.  There’s a monument on Jackson & 12th to mark where it used to be.  May 12th there will be an open house at the McCormick School Museum from 10:30 to 5:30 pm.  The museum is also open the 2nd Sunday from 2-5 September through June. If you’re looking for an interesting place to visit just go down to McCormick and Martinson and have a look.
